Friends are nice. Acting in companionship, competition or celebration, they astound me in how they can make my day so much better.
I wish I did not get bored of them so easily.
It can take a minute of conversation, or weeks of togetherness, but my impatience reveals itself to me and my friends lose their lustre. At that point, I just push my cherished comrades away, like toys. This happens frequently enough that I have to wonder, are they my toys?
My dad has booked tickets to Costa Rica for a week. I have never been there, but it beckons fun. A week-long vacation is exactly my style. I can make short-lived friendships, disposable at my own discretion and not a speck of commitment. Or I could just sit on the beach, reading, writing or making art.
